Ahhh the mainstream media. Gotta love how they
twit twist things up! Today's NY Times
front page article about Twitter and celebrity usage and specifically 50 Cent's usage of it is a clear example of blunt force reporting in an age where the truth is nothing but a google search away. 50 cent is one of the most prolific writers in music history and has the awards to prove it, and needs no ghost writers.
No, he does not walk around twittering to all his industry pals all day. Instead, his 200,000 followers are fed the most recent updates from thisis50.com, 50s news and entertainment community, which boasts almost half a million profiles, serves millions of unique users a month, and is one of the biggest websites on the planet.

The quote referenced came from my twitter feed,
@broadwayallday. 50 has always been one of the realest individuals in the entertainment game, and there is no exception here. I did not and do not write in "50's voice," and its not our policy to try to fool our fan community by doing so. The quote is directly from 50, from an as yet unreleased interview that we shot that day. I found the quote inspirational, and posted, in full quotes, on MY twitter, and it was re tweeted from 50s account by our new media manager,
Corentin. As of now, there is no back and forth interaction between 50 and other twitter followers, and anyone that knows how twitter works can plainly see it. It’s a point of release for thisis50.com and 50 related news.
50 cent is a business, as is
thisis50.com. At
thisis50.com, we use twitter for our own purposes, and we have never been limited by technology's expectations of how we should utilize it. I challenge the entertainment community as a whole to stop
buzzword surfing and get to the point of what your goals are, then find or mold available technologies to suit your purposes. Our goal was to build the coolest site to hang out on and get your daily fix of entertainment and information. What's yours?
From using electricity in the park from lamp posts, PA systems, turntables, and a mic, drum machines and sampling, to today's mixtape game and out of control myspace pages, and yes,
thisis50.com, hip hop has always used technology for its own purposes. We won't stop now!!
