BY ETHAN ROUEN, ALISON GENDAR, BOB KAPPSTATTER & LEO STANDORA DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS A gunman fleeing cops in a stolen Con Ed van put a bullet in his head to avoid capture when he got cornered in standstill traffic outside Yankee Stadium after Tuesday night's game, police said. The unidentified man committed suicide as cops cautiously approached the van, and scores of Yankee fans sat frozen in their cars watching the chase come to a bloody end. Cops drew their weapons as they neared the van on the Major Deegan Expressway at 161st St. but never fired a shot, a police source said. The gunman fired his weapon once, the source said. The drama began shortly before 10 p.m. when a young woman ran into a meat market at Courtlandt Ave. and E. 151st St. in Melrose, clutching a bleeding arm and screaming she had been shot. She was later said to be in stable condition at Jacobi Medical Center. Her shouts apparently spooked the shooter, who jumped into an empty Con Ed van idling at a nearby construction station and started to pull away. The van's driver said he ran up to it only to have the gunman point a pistol muzzle at his nose and tell him to get lost. The Con Ed driver then flagged down an NYPD radio car coming in his direction, but before the cops could do anything, the gunman rammed their car and sped away. Two cops in the car, who suffered minor injuries, radioed what happened, police said. A number of other cop cars then gave chase and followed the gunman onto the Deegan, where he got stuck in the postgame gridlock. THE ASSOCIATED PRESS BALTIMORE - A man who had argued with his estranged wife over the custody of their three children has confessed to drowning them in a hotel bathtub on the night they were to go back with their mother, police said Monday. Mark A. Castillo will be charged after he is released from a hospital where he is being treated for self-inflicted cuts on his neck, Police Commissioner Frederick Bealefeld said at a news conference. Police did not cite a motive. But his wife wrote in court documents that her husband had threatened to make her suffer by killing the children. She sought a protective order Dec. 25, 2006 and asked that the court order Castillo to receive counseling. "He has never actually hurt (the children), but did tell me that the worst thing he could do to me would be to kill the children and not me so I could live without them," she wrote in the petition. She also wrote that when her husband took the children for visits, he would not tell her where they were staying. A temporary protective order was approved three days after the petition was filed, but Circuit Judge Joseph Dugan rejected a permanent order Jan. 10, 2007. In explaining his decision, Dugan wrote there was "no clear or convincing evidence that the alleged acts of abuse occurred." Police identified the children as Anthony, 6, Austin, 4, and Athena, 2. Castillo, 41, of Rockville, and the children spent time Saturday afternoon at Baltimore's Inner Harbor, then checked into the Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor. The children were drowned, one at a time, in the tub that night, Bealefeld said. Police said Castillo called the hotel front desk Sunday afternoon, saying he'd killed the children and was going to commit suicide. Baltimore police and firefighters were sent to their 10th-floor room and discovered the bodies, Bealefeld said. Castillo was supposed to have returned the children to their mother in Silver Spring at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. His wife called Montgomery County police shortly after that time to say that her husband had not returned the children, Bealefeld said. Baltimore police did not know how Montgomery County police responded, but said the cases were not connected until after the children's bodies were found. According to The NY Post: WAYCROSS, Ga. (AP) -- A group of children ages 8 to 10 apparently were mad at their teacher because she had scolded one of them for standing on a chair, authorities say. That led the third-graders, as many as nine boys and girls, to plot an attack on the teacher at Center Elementary School in south Georgia. Police Chief Tony Tanner said the students apparently planned to knock the teacher unconscious with a glass paperweight, bind her with handcuffs and duct tape and then stab her with a broken steak knife. The scheme involved a division of roles, Tanner said. One child's job was to cover windows so no one could see outside, and another was supposed to clean up after the attack. "We're not sure at this point in the investigation how many of the students actually knew the intent was to hurt the teacher," Tanner said. School officials had alerted police Friday after a pupil tipped off a teacher that a girl had taken a weapon to school. Tanner said the teacher told detectives the children weren't known as troublemakers. "You can't dismiss it," Tanner said. "But because they are kids, they may have thought this was like a cartoon - we do whatever and then she stands up and she's OK. That's a hard call." The purported target teaches third-grade students with learning disabilities, including attention deficit disorder, delayed development and hyperactivity, friends and parents said. Two of the students were arrested on juvenile charges Tuesday and a third arrest was expected. District Attorney Rick Currie said other students told investigators they didn't take the plot seriously or insisted they had decided not to participate. "Some of the kids said, `We thought they were just kidding,'" Currie said. "Another child was supposed to bring a toy pistol, and he told a detective he didn't bring it because he thought he would get in trouble." Currie said the children are too young to be charged as adults, and probably too young to be sentenced to a youth detention center. "We did not hear anybody say they intended to kill her, but could they have accidentally killed her? Absolutely," Tanner said. "We feel like if they weren't interrupted, there would have been an attempt. Would they have been successful? We don't know." Currie said he decided to seek juvenile charges against two girls, ages 9 and 10, who brought the knife and paperweight and an 8-year-old boy who brought tape. He said they face charges of conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, and both girls are being charged with taking weapons to school. Nine children have been given discipline up to and including long-term suspension, said Theresa Martin, spokeswoman for the Ware County school system. She would not be more specific but said none of the children had been back to school since the case came to light. School system policy says any student who brings "anything reasonably considered to be a weapon" is to be expelled for at least the remainder of the school year. 50 Cent Speaks On G-Unit's Finances
With MTV’s seemingly endless coverage on 50 Cent, their latest interview with the head of G-Unit allowed him to address the financial rumors of each member and why his relationship with the crew is more like a band of brothers. A recent online interview on YoRaps with Young Buck claiming he never received a royalty check from his record sales sparked a massive rush of rumors across the Internet. Even after manager Sha Money XL countered Buck’s statements saying they were false [click here to read...], skeptical views developed. 50 Cent addressed these rumors and explained how each G-Unit member has profited. “Each person in G-Unit has earned over $10 million in their career at this point. Outside of the guys that didn’t release product—M.O.P., Spider Loc, Olivia—the guys that had their projects go out physically,” he said. While members like Lloyd Banks and Young Buck released their projects as far back as 2004 (The Hunger For More, Welcome to Cashville), as well as 15 years of Mobb Deep product, many entertainers easily spend millions yearly. 50 acknowledged this fact and admitted that what happened with their money is solely upon them. “I didn’t say they have $10 million, I said they’ve seen $10 million. What they did with their paper, I don’t know,” 50 said. Continuing to address the Young Buck rumors and the stability of the group as a whole, 50 offered his explanation for why their status has seemed overly dramatized. “I think you have to give them something to blow it out of proportion. Buck did that. I think that what he was saying, in order to validate himself as a man, he feels he has to go against what I’m doing, similar to some of the things we’ve seen from Game,” he said. While stating that his relationship with Buck is much deeper than the one between himself and Game, 50 explained Buck’s loyalty and how he has to play the big brother role amongst the entire group. “He’ll back off of it, when we’re in direct conversation. When he’s out in public, he’ll say something. They’re like my younger brothers, but they’ll do shit for attention. They’ll do things, then when I look like, ‘What are you doing?’, they’ll be like, ‘Oh, nah, because you was doing this… [or] Because you didn’t call me when you were on the international tour.’ I’m like, ‘Are you kidding me?
